1946-2013

Stanley L. Holcombe, 67, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, on Easter morning, in a hospital in San Antonio. Stan was born March 26, 1946, in Floresville, Texas, to Grady and Sylvia Holcombe.

He grew up on a farm near Coy City and graduated from Karnes City High School in 1964. He married Janie Dunn on Aug. 6, 1965, in San Antonio. They were married 47 years. Janie was by his side when he passed away. After they were married, Stan and Janie moved to Corpus Christi, where their three daughters, Candy, Tammy, and Wendy, were born. He was a wonderful father, and his daughters adored him. He worked in the air conditioning and heating business for nearly 50 years in both Corpus Christi and Karnes City, and he could fix anything. He worked for Star Service Co. at the Valero oil refinery in Three Rivers until just recently.

Stan never met a stranger and never passed up a person in need. He helped many people over the years, whether it was changing a flat tire, making a repair, or lending a helping hand in whatever way needed. He would have given the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. Stan was a member of the Churches of Christ in Kenedy, Karnes City, and Corpus Christi and worked in the bus ministry and Bible Hour programs. He loved playing 42, drinking coffee with friends, and spending time with his family.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Marie Holcombe.

He is survived by his wife, Janie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Candy Reagan and husband Danny, Tammy Trevino, and Wendy Trevino and husband Armando; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Liz, and Desiree Reagan, Brandon and Britney Trevino, and Sydney, Mason, Mattox, and Madden Trevino; a great-grandson, Brayson Trevino; a stepgrandson, Nick Reagan; and his father-in-law, Bill Dunn.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 4, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, officiated by Stan’s longtime friend, Rodney Hamon, and assisted by W.B. Howard.

Interment followed in the New Bremens Cemetery in Karnes City.

Serving as pallbearers were Danny Reagan, Armando Trevino, Ryan Reagan, Brandon Trevino, Mason Trevino, Mattox Trevino, Marvin Armour, and Eddy Haynes.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
