Murray Lee Dyer, a resident of Stockdale, Texas, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, in his home in Stockdale after a gallant two-and-a-half-year battle with throat cancer at MD Anderson in Houston. He was born Jan. 15, 1964, in Dallas to Eddie Mack and Doris Dyer.

While growing up, Murray enjoyed having lived in Bangkok, Thailand, and in Frankfurt, Germany. He traveled to Russia with his mother in 2008 and to Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2012 with his son. He loved to fish and enjoyed cooking. He will be greatly missed by his companion, Melissa Baker, whose care was greatly appreciated, and his many dear friends. The family wishes to thank Odyssey Hospice for their care and kindness and to the Rev. Carolyn McGuire for bringing him to the Lord several years ago. Look to the night sky and you’ll see Katie and Murray smiling and walking Donald, the duck, said the family.

Murray was preceded in death by his wife, Katie; his father, Eddie Mack Dyer; and grandparents Weldon Claude and Mary Louise King of Stockdale, and M. Lea Blackmon of San Antonio.

He is survived by his beloved son, Devon Dyer of Stockdale; mother Doris Dyer Anderson of Spring; siblings Allan Dyer and wife Nancy of Medina and Belinda Stephens and husband Rodney of Wimberley; niece Kaela Dyer Luna and husband Noah and their daughter Everlee; nephews Garrett Dyer, and Riley and Isaac Stephens.

The family received friends on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A memorial service was held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel, officiated by the Rev. Carolyn McGuire, followed by a celebration of his life.

A private interment will occur at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Murray’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
