La Vernia Connections: La Vernia officials plan April 16 town hall meeting
The City of La Vernia Planning and Zoning Commission will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, April 16, at 6 p.m. in the La Vernia Primary School cafeteria. The commission and the city council are providing this forum for citizens to share their concerns and ideas and have an opportunity to learn more about city government.
The event will start at 6 p.m. with a hot dog dinner, and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Robert Gregory will offer a welcome to the citizens. Participants will break into smaller groups and will have an opportunity in the smaller break-out sessions to ask questions and share their thoughts on the various topics.
The mayor and Planning and Zoning Chair Jennifer Moczygemba will present an overview of zoning and how the city is planning for growth. Royce Gray with IESI, the city’s waste hauler, and Planning and Zoning member Dianell Recker will discuss curbside recycling. Leila Siqueiros with the Texas Masonry Council and Planning and Zoning member Gordon Bake will address building standards. Lastly, Jennifer Kolbe, executive director of the La Vernia Municipal Development District (MDD), and MDD Board Chair Brad Beck will explain the role of the MDD in the economic development of the city.
This break-out session format was used last year at the town hall meeting regarding the development of the city’s comprehensive plan. More than 130 citizens participated then and the event was tremendously successful.
The comments offered at the meeting will be recorded and shared with the Planning and Zoning Commission, the MDD board, and the city council to aid in directing local government. Citizens also will have the opportunity to provide feedback regarding future town hall meetings and possible topics for future discussions.
In addition, the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) will provide information about the recreational opportunities the authority is developing along the San Antonio River basin. This is an opportunity for citizens to learn more about recreational options and protecting the watershed.
