Benedict ‘Ben’ Korzekwa
Benedict “Ben” Korzekwa, 88, of Denhawken, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in Seguin. Ben was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Denhawken to John and Cecilia (Jarzombek) Korzekwa.
He began farming at the age of 13. In 1943 he entered World War II where he served for two years in Italy and Austria. In 1945 he resumed his agricultural life, in which he remained active until his death. On April 30, 1955, he married Hattie Hoffmann, whom he loved dearly and took great care of until her passing on Nov. 2, 2006. Ben was very active in his church and community his entire life, participating in turkey shoots, youth baseball, 4-H Clubs, picnics, and many other events. He was also involved with the USDA at the county level and served many years on the Wilson County Soil and Water Conversation Board. As a reflection of his Catholic faith, he recently received the Lumen Gentium Award from his home parish of St. Ann’s in Kosciusko. In his free time, Ben enjoyed gardening and raising chickens. More than anything, Ben truly loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his great-grandson. Ben will be remembered by his many friends and family for his loving, caring concern for everyone, for his generosity and giving spirit, and the way he warmly greeted everyone -- both those who came to see him and those he would meet wherever he was.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hedwig “Hattie” (Hoffmann) Korzekwa; and sister Ann Wenzel (Korzekwa).
Ben is survived by his sons, Gabriel Korzekwa and wife Bertha, Johnny “J.B.” Korzekwa and wife Nancy, Joey Korzekwa and wife Charlsie, James Korzekwa and wife Gina, and Albert Korzekwa and wife Julie; grandchildren Blaise Korzekwa and fiancée Tara Raabe, Kaine Korzekwa, Cindy Harris and husband David, J.J. Korzekwa, Gus Korzekwa, Bradley Korzekwa and wife Jennifer, Katy Kasprzyk and husband Clayton, Julie Eckel and husband William, Billy Korzekwa, Samantha Korzekwa, Thomas Korzekwa, Monica Korzekwa, Miles Korzekwa, and Cecilia Korzekwa; great-grandson Jackson Eckel; his sisters, Sister Loritta Korzekwa, Sister Lucy Korzekwa, and Sister Janelle Korzekwa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held on Thursday, April 11, from 3:30-8 p.m. with a rosary vigil at 6:30 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko.
A funeral Mass was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the church officiated by the Rev. Dennis Jarzombek, the Rev. Jan Szpilka, S.D.S., the Rev. Bill Zadora, and the Rev. Bill McNamara.
