Stockdale News: Family businesses thrive in town
By: Victoria Padilla
Stockdale Monument was established in 1969 in its present location. The Myers family owns the business while Mike Coon manages. Their business specializes in making monuments, accessories, engraving, and lettering. They also install the monuments in the cemetery. Their goal is to make quality monuments and serve the area the best way that they can.
Stockdale Monument also contributes to the community by sponsoring the Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee, Little League baseball, golf tournaments, ads in the school roster, and has donated to the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show. As well as contributing to the community, they also contribute to the Chamber of Commerce by donating to town improvements and loaning their tent for important functions.
ICP Industries, originally opened in San Antonio in 1960, is owned by Gary Smith Sr. His son, Gary Smith Jr., manages the Stockdale location that was established in 2011. The company specializes in refurbishing natural gas compressor cylinders with hard chrome. Their goal is to expand and offer more job options in Stockdale.
ICP Industries sponsors the Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee, the Little League baseball, the high school PA system, the baseball field, and students in FFA. ICP Industries contributes to the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce by donating for town improvements and being a trendsetter for more businesses to come to Stockdale.
Junior Journalists in Charlin Akin’s journalism class at Stockdale High School are highlighting members of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce on this community page as a service to the chamber. The Junior Journalist program is part of the Wilson County News’ Newspapers In Education program.
