Spring is always a busy time at any school district and things are busy with only a month and a half of school left of the 2012-13 school year.

Stockdale Elementary School is loaded with events in May. Events include: Friday, May 3, the talent show; Friday, May 10, third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade dance; and Friday, May 17, annual field day. On Thursday, May 9, the district will have pre-k registration from 3:45-5 p.m. Kindergarten graduation will be held Friday, May 31, at 9 a.m.

The Stockdale Junior High School will hold its eighth-grade graduation Friday, May 31, at 10 a.m.

Congratulations to all of the junior high track participants who did a great job of competing at the junior high track meet.

Clayton Lynn, Carey Murphy, and Cameron Hess competed in the third annual Calculus Showdown, sponsored by Texas Lutheran University March 2. Ten schools competed in the second and third rounds of the competition. A total of 50 schools participated in round one. The team competed in a scavenger hunt in which the students solved calculus problems in order to get their next question. They then competed in a rapid-fire round where they were given about 10 seconds to solve a problem. They fared well against the other schools.

Teachers of the month for March are:

•Elementary School -- Barbara Freaser

•Junior High School -- Daphne Gordon

•High School -- Melissa Rust.

The Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) would like to recognize Leroy Sanchez for his time as a school board member. We thank him for the time that he spent serving the students of Stockdale.

Also, we would like to recognize Susan Bohman for her 23 years as a Stockdale ISD employee. Susan recently retired and we wish her the best in her upcoming adventures.

Thanks again for the work of these individuals.

Have a great month!

Paul Darilek is the superintendent of the Stockdale Independent School District.
