Offer condolences


Robert Clayborn “R.C.” Oliver Jr. of Stockdale, Texas, passed away of cancer Monday, April 15, 2013, at the age of 81 years. R.C. was born Oct. 18, 1931, to Cleta and Robert Oliver Sr. in Wellington, Kan.

He was a 1949 graduate of Wellington High School and attended Kansas State University. R.C. proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. A lieutenant in the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Posse, R.C. led their award-winning drill team for eight years. He was also a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and the American Cutting Horse Association for more than 20 years. He was inducted into the American Cutting Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2010. R.C. was also a member of the South Texas Trail Riders Association for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Steven Oliver; and his daughter, Rhonda Oliver.

Surviving to honor his memory are his wife of 37 years, June Oliver; his son, Clay Oliver and wife Ann of Wichita, Kan.; his daughter, Terri Nation and husband Robert of Haysville, Kan.; his brother, Larry Oliver and wife Beverly of Wellington, Kan.; and several grandchildren and nephews.

Visitation was held Wednesday, April 17, from 6-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A graveside service was held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Robstown Memorial Park in Robstown.
