FC councilman, clerk resign
FALLS CITY -- The city now is faced with filling vacancies for both a councilman and a city clerk, following the Falls City City Council’s April 17 meeting.
Mayor Brent Houdmann said following the meeting that former Councilman Clarence Crawford tendered his resignation -- effective immediately -- citing his work schedule and lengthy commute. Crawford, for whom a successor is actively being sought, was appointed to the council Jan. 31, 2011, to fill a vacancy that existed since 2007. His term would have ended in May.
With regard to the May election, the council voted to cancel it, since incumbent Councilman Gery Jendrusch was the only one to apply for a place on the ballot.
Also during the meeting, the council accepted the resignation of former City Clerk Betty Valadez. Houdmann said that she resigned for “personal” reasons, offering no specific explanation. The city has placed newspaper advertisements in hopes of encouraging someone to apply to fill the vacancy.
In other business, the council voted to award a contract to Weaver Construction for completion of the city’s 2013 streets repair project. Houdmann said Weaver, which was one of two companies to bid the job, has agreed to perform the task for “approximately $108,000.”
Repairs will be performed to:
•Terrell Street, from U.S. 181 to Irvin Street
•Elwood Street, from U.S. 181 to Irvin Street
•Maverick Street, from U.S. 181 to Irvin Street
