I am running for the La Vernia ISD school board, Place 1. I have lived in La Vernia for over 20 years and I am very proud of our community and our school district.

I have been married to my wife for 31 years, and have two daughters and a granddaughter. I am very involved with the youth of our community through St. Ann Catholic Church, where I have served as a confirmation teacher for the past six years, and am involved with the teen and adult ACTS ministry for the past five years. I also officiate high school basketball and have just completed my 18th season.

I have served on the school board for the past 11 years, many as either president or vice president. I have always felt that the children of our community deserve my time. We have accomplished so much and we still have more to do. Almost all buildings are new or have been remodeled and our tax rate remained lower. I am most proud of the staff we have hired or kept by addressing the pay scales. We simply want the best teachers and administrators for our children.

I ask for your vote once again.

Just as I thought, his reaction was to approve 5 percent pay raise to all employees.

Please explain to me why you approved a $695,257 to anyone employed with the district a one-time stipend last year, even those who had discipline problems?
