Get your tickets for Floresville Opry May 2
If you enjoy listening and dancing to live country music, gathering with friends, and enjoying a good meal, then head out to the Floresville Opry Thursday, May 2, from 6-9:30 p.m. in the Floresville Event Center at 600 S.H. 97 W. in Floresville. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Classic country music by the house band “Playin’ To Win,” along with featured artists Kenny Penny, Dave Demeny, Tobe Ricks, and Leon Payne Jr., will get the crowd on the dance floor.
Tobe Ricks started playing music when he was 6 years old. He plays piano, guitar, bass, five-string banjo, and fiddle along with singing. During the ’50s and ’60s he worked with various groups mostly as a pop folk singer type. For the past four decades, Tobe also has worked as a musician in cities such as Houston and Denver, Colo. He moved back to his hometown of Kenedy in 1993, and has continued playing and singing ever since.
Dave Demeny’s interest in playing guitar began while in the Navy, where he had a shipmate that taught him basic chords and progressions. After joining Motorola and moving to Seguin in 1973, he discovered the country music jam scene and his interest in country music and guitar was rekindled. Since the ’90s, he has been heavily involved in playing guitar, fiddle, and mandolin, and singing.
In addition to the Opry’s live music, a delicious roast beef dinner by Werner’s from Shiner will be served for $7 per plate. Concessions will also be available.
General admission is $7 per person, or $100 for a reserved table that seats 10. Tickets are available at Wilson County News and the Sam Fore Jr. Wilson County Public Library. All proceeds will benefit the Wilson County Historical Society.
