POTH -- In an effort to provide a more unique experience, and easier access to football for children in the area, the Poth Youth Football Program has been established to provide flag and tackle football, as well as cheerleading opportunities. The league will compete as part of the Texas Youth Football Association.

In an effort to get things started, an early registration session will be held Sunday, April 28, from 2-4 p.m. at Poth City Plaza. The league is open to children ages 4-11 (as of Aug. 1, 2013). A flag-football team will be formed for ages 4-6, and a trio of tackle teams also will be formed. Kids 6-7 will compete in the Midget division, ages 8-9 will play on the Rookies team, and players ages 10-11 will form the Juniors team. The cost is $90 for flag football and $185 for tackle football.

Those interested in cheerleading should attend the registration. According to league organizers, if enough interest and support is shown for cheerleading squads, they will be formed later this year.

With help and support from volunteers and the school coaches, the new organization will teach the fundamentals and proper techniques for football. This will help develop the youth in football, and let them have fun learning the sport. The kids also will have an opportunity to play on Jack Lane Field just like the high school athletes.

For more information, call Ruben Gutierrez at 210-393-5899.
