The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will manage a specialized caseload with a focus on criminal enterprise, human trafficking/human smuggling and other cases as needed. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas, and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of five (5) years prosecutorial experience with felony cases and extensive trial experience. Salary commensurate with experience. Resumes will be accepted through the close of business October 19, 2015. Juan Jose “Joey” Flores passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013, in San Antonio at the age of 53 years, 9 months, and 4 days. He was born on July 21, 1959, in Pleasanton, Texas, to Betty Nieto and Gasper Flores Sr.

Joey was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Herlinda I. Vela; grandson Elijah Trae Vela; and brother Gasper Flores Jr.

He is survived by his parents; his wife, Irasema Casarez Flores; children Jennifer Roque of San Antonio and Christopher A. Vela of Midland; sister Barbara Longoria and husband Richard of Floresville; brother Gilbert Flores and wife Lia of Floresville; grandchildren Benjamin Roque and Jonathan Roque; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A small family gathering was held on Sunday, April 28, at 4 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

Visitation was held on Sunday at 6 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Sutherland Springs.

Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Castro, Leonard Castro, Marshall Castro, Baldemar Flores III, David Flores, Erasmo Flores Jr., Ramon Perez, and Willie Perez.
