1944-2013

Shirley Jean Bowling DeGlopper, a resident of Wilson County, Texas, for the past 10 years, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 3:10 p.m. in her residence in Wilson County, at the age of 68 years, 4 months, and 11 days. Shirley was born Dec. 17, 1944, in San Antonio, the daughter of Alvin H. and Marguerite Elizabeth Brules Bowling.

Shirley was an extraordinary person who can be described in many ways ... devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. The one word to describe her best is caregiver. Shirley cared for so many and gave all she had to those she loved. As a nurse she cared for her patients as if they were family. She cared for her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews as if they were her children. Those she held most dear were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she cared for them most of all. Every person in her life has a story to tell about how loved she made them feel and how truly blessed they are to have known her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle DeGlopper; her children, David and Cheryl; her granddaughter, Melanie Jean Rupinski; and her sister-in-law, Peggy Bowling

She is survived by her children, David Chris Manges and spouse Christina, Cindy Lou McClain, and Donna Jean Rupinski and husband Melvin; her grandchildren, Michael McClain, Tanya Cox and husband Josh, Arain McClain, Nicholas McClain, Ryan Rupinski, Riley Rupinski, Christopher Montieth and wife Renee, and Sean Ketchum; her great-grandchildren, Justin Cox, Haley Cox, Collier Cox, Cameron Cox, Phoenix McClain, Hunter Montieth, and Kyley Ketchum; and her siblings, Robert Bowling and wife Betty, Ann Garner, Mervin Bowling, Jan Alexander, Ronnie Bowling and wife Teressa, Sam Bowling and wife Cella, Judy Minnich, and Roy Bowling and wife Marilee.

Visitation was held on Thursday, May 2, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

The service was followed by cremation.
