Beaverettes win region track title
The Falls City Beaverette track and field team celebrates its Region IV championship April 27 at Judson High School.
CONVERSE -- On Friday, April 26, the Falls City girls and boys competed in day one of the regional track meet at Judson. Friday included prelims and a portion of field events.
Regional qualifiers that participated on Friday were Caitlin Jendrusch in shot put and Shaw Moy in pole vault. Both finished fourth in their events. In the running prelims, the 4x100-meter relay team of Haleigh Blocker, Kaelan Cheatham, Taylor Dziuk, and Kayla Kotara finished second, which advanced them to the finals on Saturday. Also advancing to the finals were Alyssa Dziuk in the 800-meter run; Blocker, Taylor Dziuk, Kotara, and Moy in the 4x200-meter relay; Cheatham in the 300-meter hurdles; and Blocker, Cheatham, Kotara, and Moy in the 4x400-meter relay.
On Saturday, the finals were held, with promise of advancing the top two finishers in each event to the state meet in Austin. Participating in discus were Tiffany Dziuk and Jendrusch. Tiffany finished second, which advances her to the state meet, while Jendrusch was close behind in third. The girls 4x100-meter relay finished third in the finals with a time a 50:67. Alyssa Dziuk also placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.42.
The 4x200-meter relay team finished second with a time of 1:45.60, which advances it to the state meet. Cheatham placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.79. Katie Pollok competed in the 1,600-meter run and finished sixth with a time of 5:52.67. The 4x400-meter relay concluded the meet with a first-place trophy, and a state-qualifying time of 4:04.60.
After the conclusion of events, the nine varsity Beaverette competitors scored a total of 81 points to win the Region IV-1A Meet. Harper finished second with a total of 78 points.
The State Track Meet will be held Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
