Stockdale Junior High tennis recap

Stockdale Junior High School has competed in three tennis tournaments this year. All the students played very well in each tournament.

On March 23, the teams played in the Stockdale Invitational Tournament with the following results. Matthew Dunn won the seventh-grade boys singles, while his two teammates, Collin Akin and Gene Nugent, were the consolation winner and consolation runner-up, respectively. In seventh-grade boys doubles, the team of Jalen Cano and Jorge Navarro was the consolation runner-up. Karlye Lynn and Callye McGee placed third in the seventh-grade girls doubles. In the eighth-grade division, Justin Cannon was the consolation runner-up.

On Saturday, April 27, the teams traveled to Wimberley. Lynn and McGee won the tournament in the seventh-grade girls doubles division. Akin won the consolation division in seventh-grade boys singles, with Dunn and Garrison Conkel making it to the first round of consolation. In seventh-grade boys doubles, Thomas Burrier and Jacob Vaughn won one and lost one in a round-robin set-up. Joel Marquez placed first in eighth-grade boys singles consolation with teammate Joshua Rangel coming in as the runner-up. Cannon played in the first round of consolation. In eighth-grade girls singles, Velma Vidal advanced to the third round and Hannah Hernandez advanced to the second round.

Finally, Stockdale Junior High School tennis played in the Cuero Tournament. Seventh-grader Dunn finished in third place, and Akin won his first match, while teammate Conkel played in the consolation division. In seventh-grade boys doubles, Cano and Navarro, and Burrier and Vaughn played in the consolation division. First-round winners were Lynn and McGee in seventh-grade girls doubles, and Hernandez and Lori Marroquin in eighth-grade girls doubles. Consolation winners were Vidal in eighth-grade girls singles, and Marquez in eighth-grade boys singles. Enoc Clapp and Nugent participated in consolation in eighth-grade boys doubles.

The junior high district tournament was held in Stockdale May 4.
