The East Central FFA teams have been traveling to a variety of contests in preparation for area and state FFA Career Development Events held across Texas. The Meats, Poultry, Livestock, Dairy Cattle, Entomology, Wool, Veterinary Technology, Floriculture, and Ag Mechanics teams have competed in contests at Walter Gerlach, Floresville, W.F. Krueger Invitational, the Katy Invitational, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Manvel, Victoria, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, McLennan Community College, Tarleton State University, Texas State University, and Texas A&M University.

Meats Evaluation

In the Meats Evaluation Contest, the team placed third at San Antonio, second at Houston, first at Tarleton State, and fifth at Texas State University.

Team members and individual places include:

•Tommy Fletcher, ninth, Houston; 17th, Tarleton; and seventh at Texas State.

•Ciarra Gawlik, second, Houston; and 16th at Tarleton.

•Jordan Hevner, ninth, San Antonio; third, Houston; and 11th at Tarleton.

•Shelbi Knox, 20th, Houston; and third at Tarleton.

•Aaron Maron who placed 12th at Tarleton.


In the Poultry Contest competition, the team placed first at the East Central contest; and second at the Katy, McLennan, and Krueger contests. They continued their winning ways with third-place finishes at Houston and Texas State; and fourth-place finishes at the San Antonio and Manvel contests.

Team members and individual places include:

•Emileigh Geistweidt, first, Katy; third, East Central and Houston; seventh, McLennan; and 11th at Texas State.

•Stephenie Geistweidt, fourth, Katy; first, East Central; third, San Antonio; third, Manvel; 20th, Houston; fifth, McLennan; and ninth, Texas State.

Other team members competing included Kelsey Mihalski, 13th at Houston; Johnna Pieniazek, eighth at Katy; Cheyenne Zaointz, ninth at Katy; and Chloe Villapondo and Jared Maron.

Livestock Evaluation CDE

In the Livestock Evaluation Career Development Events (CDE), the team of Matt Alexander, Ty Baird, Katelyn Gonzales, Jordan Hevner, Amy Beth Moran, Kylie Patterson, Kaylee Reed, Alexis Wagner, and Allen Walls placed third at the Walter Gerlach Invitational, fifth at Floresville, 17th at San Antonio, and fifth at the Texas State CDE Contest.

Individually, Ty was eighth at Walter Gerlach and 25th at Texas State; Kylie, third in Floresville; and Alexis, sixth in Walter Gerlach.


The Entomology team placed sixth at McLennan; seventh, Tarleton; and third at the Texas State CDE contest.

Todd Bettice led the way individually with a sixth-place finish in the McLennan contest and third at the Texas State CDE contest; and Kearsten Pollok placed 15th in the Texas State CDE competition. They were joined by Danny Espinosa, Paige Plate, and Dallas Polasek.

Dairy Cattle

The Dairy Cattle team participated in the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo contest and placed in the following contests: Houston, sixth; McLennan, 10th; and Tarleton, 11th.

Individually, Hannah Plate placed 11th at Tarleton.

During the Houston contest, five members of the team earned certificates to purchase steers or heifers to participate in the 2014 Houston Livestock Show. including Kevin Anderson, Alyssa Denson, Julie Kosub, Kylie Patterson, and Hannah Plate.

Other team members included Spencer Foley, Travis Hamilton, Dalton Hudler, Julie Kosub, Madison Lange, and Randee Terrill.

Horse Evaluation

Morgan Harper led the Horse Evaluation team with a third-place individual win at McLennan. She was joined by Anissa Cervera, Brittany Coble, and Jessica Hawkins for a 12th-place finish in that contest.

This team also participated in the San Antonio, Houston, and Tarleton contests.

More teams

The Wool team placed 11th at the San Antonio contest and sixth at Houston with team members Kristen Ayala, Diamond Mouton Bell, Sean Mulhollen, and Colin Padalecki. Sean and Diamond placed sixth and eighth, respectively, at Houston.

Matt Alexander, Ashley Criado, and Lorie Mendez, members of the Veterinary Technology team, competed at the McLennan and Tarleton contests.

The Floriculture team of Kristin Ayala, Erin Crow, Sarah Ledwig, and Loryn Noah placed 12th at Katy and fourth at Manvel. Kristin placed ninth in the Manvel contest.

The Ag Mechanics team of Jace Freeman, Gavin Nester, and Gerald Ramzinski placed 16th at the Texas State contest.

•Texas A&M University student teacher Sidney Carter -- Veterinary Technology

•Charlie Dylla -- Ag Mechanics
