Barbara Grabert Cox, beloved wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 4 days. She was born on March 12, 1940, in Potsdam, East Germany, to Albert and Elsa Pastoors Grabert. She was a former resident of Pasa Robles, Calif., and a resident of La Vernia for seven years.

Barbara married a special American gentleman, Phillip Cox, on Oct. 13, 1961, and moved to the United States in 1963. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary this last October. Barbara was a member of the Immanual Lutheran Church in La Vernia. Barbara endured so much in her life from being a World War II child in Germany, moving to a different country, and dealing with several life-threatening illnesses, yet with her positive and bubbly personality touched so many lives. She loved to cook, which she did quite well.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Phillip T. Cox of La Vernia; daughter Christiana Elsa Hewitt and husband Mark of La Vernia; son Craig Avery Cox and wife Heidi of Paso Robles, Calif.; four grandchildren, Daniel Hewitt, Sarah Hewitt, Samantha Hewitt, and Curtis Cox; three great-grandchildren, Aiden Hewitt, Autumn Hewitt, and newborn Kayden Cox; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 21, from 5-8 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Sutherland Springs officiated by Dr. Robert Palan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 310 Seguin St., La Vernia, TX 78121.
