1923-2013

Rudy Ramos Garza, a lifelong resident of Floresville, entered eternal rest Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 4:10 a.m. in the Nix Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 19 days. Rudy was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Floresville, Texas, the son of Vicente and Juanita Ramos Garza.

After graduation from Floresville High School, Rudy proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Rudy married Dora Treviño in October 1947, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, where Rudy was a lifelong member. Rudy retired from civil service after 33 years of service, and also served as a Floresville Municipal Judge for 10 years. He was also a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW Post No. 8555.

The family would like to thank Dr. Karl Hempel and the staff on the seventh, 18th, and 24th floors at the Nix Hospital for their loving care over the years.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tommy Garza; and his brother, Antonio Ramos Garza.

Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of more than 65 years, Dora Treviño Garza of Floresville; his wonderful children, Vincent Garza and wife Susie of La Vernia, Claudia Garza and Mary Jane Garza, both of San Antonio, and Suzie Martinez and husband Sal of Floresville; his daughter-in-law, Lucy Garza of Floresville; his sister, Dolores Kieke of Floresville; his grandchildren, John Garza, Jason Garza, Vincent Martinez, Michael Swanson, Alisa Herrington, Tiffany Lyssy, Susie Criado, Stephen Swanson, Elena Garza, and Mikayla Garza; and his numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 17, at 5 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Phil Henning.

Entombment followed in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Robert Leal, Clyde Pennartz, Rawle Stanislas, Rudy Treviño Jr., Augustine Ferrer, and Waldo Martinez.
