Raul Serna Ramirez, a resident of Poth the past 15 years, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 64 years, 10 months, and 29 days. Raul was born June 17, 1948, in Floresville, Texas, the son of Salomon and Margaret Serna Ramirez.

After graduation from Poth High School, class of 1967, Raul proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. After returning from Vietnam, Raul entered the Police Academy and faithfully served for 27 years with the Dallas Police Department. After retirement, Raul returned to Poth to reside. Raul was a very proud grandfather, an avid golfer, a motorcycle aficionado, and a ladies’ man.

Raul is survived by his loving parents; his beautiful children, Roxanne Ramirez of Lewisville, Kristie Hoitsma and husband Tom of Dallas, and Matthew Ramirez of Poth; his precious grandchildren, Justin and Kayleigh Burdick and Cruz and Pilar Hoitsma; his siblings, Linda Martinez of San Antonio, Eli Ramirez and wife Irene of Poth, Arnold Ramirez and wife Estella of Floresville, and Carlos Ramirez and wife Aida of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held on Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. in the Emmanuel Assembly of God Church in Poth.

A funeral service was held on Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Emmanuel Assembly of God Church in Poth, officiated by Pastor Jim Collins.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 10:15 a.m. in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
