ECISD cuts interest on bonds
EAST CENTRAL -- Following approval from the board of trustees during last Thursday’s regular monthly meeting, East Central Independent School District will move to refund or refinance existing bonds in a move to save the district money.
According to Assistant Superintendent Jim Selby, the move will reduce the interest currently being paid on approximately $6.7 million from 5 percent to just 1.4 percent. That move is estimated to save the district $394,175 over the life of the bonds.
Another big issue on the agenda was to change the district’s attendance boundaries so that students living on Hildebrandt Road will attend Oak Crest Intermediate School and Heritage Middle School beginning this fall. While the trustees approved the change, they also agreed that affected students currently attending Salado Intermediate School or Legacy Middle School will be able to continue at the same school next year, if they so choose.
In other business, the board:
•Approved the construction project delivery contract award method to be utilized in order to secure a contract for cooler and freezer additions and replacements at East Central High School, Salado Intermediate School, and Harmony, Pecan Valley, and Sinclair elementary schools.
•Rescheduled the regular July 18 board meeting to July 25, with a special budget meeting July 23.
•Recognized nearly 200 staff members and 31 retirees for their years of service.
