Eagle Ford: Council approves road repair project
La Vernia Mayor Robert Gregory (from left) administers the oath of office May 16 to Jennifer Moczygemba, Marie Gerlich, and Randy Leonard in the La Vernia council chamber, following a canvass of the votes from the May 11 general election.
LA VERNIA -- The La Vernia City Council gathered for a special meeting May 16 to discuss action on approving a bid for a street-repair project in the city.
The project includes Industrial Road, behind Sammy’s Mexican Restaurant; River Road, behind Busy Bear Mexican Restaurant; a road in the Bear Gardens subdivision across from La Vernia High School; and Dr. Martin Street near the First Baptist Church.
The city placed a public notice inviting bids a few weeks ago; interviews have been held with several contractors.
According to Mayor Robert Gregory, the city of Falls City used Cummings Paving out of Blanco for its road repairs a few years ago.
“The streets are still in awesome condition and the city of Falls City is very happy with them,” Gregory said.
Council members Randy Leonard, Eloi Cormier, Marie Gerlich, and John Richter voted to approve a bid from Cummings Paving.
Following this meeting, the council followed with a canvass of the votes from the May 11 general election.
According to City Secretary/Treasurer Angela Cantu, three council seats were on the ballot and five candidates ran.
Declared elected following the canvass were Marie Gerlich, Randy Leonard, and Jennifer Moczygemba, all of whom then took the oath of office.
