KARNES CITY -- Safety inspectors from Marathon Oil are en route to a crude oil well site off C.R. 218 northwest of here after a fire erupted just after noon May 23.

Karnes County Sheriff Dwayne Villanueva said the fire started near a pump motor of a truck used to extract oil from the well. No evacuations were ordered and there were no injuries.

Chief Deputy Russell Swize of the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office said firefighters from Karnes City, Falls City, and Kenedy responded to the scene. They were able to extinguish the fire by 1:15 p.m. Villanueva said at approximately 3:15 p.m. that firefighters remained on standby at the scene.
