Caroline “Carrie” DeLosSantos Tejada Perkins, a lifelong resident of Floresville, came to the end of this journey and is happily home with our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 11:53 a.m., in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 5 days. Carrie was born on Oct. 24, 1932, in Saspamco, Texas, the daughter of Elizandro and Anita Gonzales DeLosSantos.

She retired after 42 years of faithful service with the Civil Service. Carrie loved life and lived life with grace, elegance, and compassion. She was a remarkable woman with great fortitude who served her community as hospital board member at Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville from 1997-2011; president of KOC auxiliary; member of LULAC, Chief EEO of Hispanic Employment Managers, and current Grand Sultana de Bejar.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; and first husband of 47 years, Judge David “Blackie” Mills Tejada.

She is survived by her husband, L.E. “Gene” Perkins of Floresville; children Carolyn Ballin and husband Ray of San Antonio, Marilyn Porter and husband Biggs of Dallas, Geraldine Deaton of Carrollton, and Theresa Haney and husband James of Elgin; stepdaughter Heidi Torres and husband Chris of Dallas; grandchildren Jason Ballin and wife Katie, Craig Ballin, Wesley Gilbreath, Caitlin Porter, Lauren Pate and husband Chris, Spencer Deaton and wife Jessica, Ashley Grimes and husband Will, and Matthew Haney; great-grandchildren Dylan Ballin and Luke Ballin; and siblings Benny DeLosSantos and wife Stella and Inez Rendon, all of San Antonio, Elizandro DeLosSantos and wife Lillie of Floresville, and Hilda Ramos and husband Simon of Fairfield, Calif.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 31, at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Phillip Henning.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Jason Ballin, Craig Ballin, Wesley Gilbreath, Matthew Haney, Will Grimes, and Spencer Deaton.
