Help Wanted

ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Compensation is at a rate of $200 per week plus $100 per completed and submitted crisis assessment, and mileage. If interested call Camino Real Community Services, 210-357-0359.

Area students receive Sara Strey memorial scholarships

The Sara Michelle Strey Memorial Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce the names of area 2013 high school seniors who will be awarded a total of $66,500. Since 2010, the foundation has awarded $201,000 in scholarships.

Students awarded the $5,000 scholarships are Vannessa Espinoza and Jacob Welch of East Central High School and Allison Freeman and Taylor Penshorn of La Vernia High School.

Students awarded $2000 scholarships are Zachary Gorhum and Sarah Pruski of East Central High School and Morgan Mills and Jacob Wiatrek of La Vernia High School.

The $1000 scholarships are going to the following students from East Central High School: Kristopher Aten, Courtney Christy, Emileigh Geistweidt, Jacob Johnson, Stacia Lamey, Sean Mulhollen, Callie Rainosek, Megan Real, Courtney Strzelczyk, Dustin Toscano, Alexis Wagner, and Kristen Wiatrek. Students from La Vernia High School receiving $1000 are Sarah Dunn, Jordan Green, Xanthe Harston, Wendy Juarez, Garrett Rabel, Jose Sahagun, and Leigh Sumners. Area seniors receiving $1,000 include Charles Albert Jr. of Floresville High School, Molly Jarzombek of Poth High School, and Ruthie Jones of Seguin High School.

Recipients of $500 scholarships from East Central High School are Jessica Bagwell, Brittany Bishop, Madaline Cruz, Tyler Haecker, Atisha Patel, and Taylor Pope. Students from La Vernia High School receiving $500 are Brittani Dear, Dustin Hurley, Mariel McFadin, Cambri Moeller, Reed Stevens, Jessica Willey, and Krysten Hayes. Also receiving a $500 scholarship is Sonja Tweeten of Floresville High School.

The Sara Strey Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Sara Strey, a junior at Texas Lutheran University and a graduate of East Central.
