ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Compensation is at a rate of $200 per week plus $100 per completed and submitted crisis assessment, and mileage. If interested call Camino Real Community Services, 210-357-0359.

East Central FFA wins state contests

East Central FFA wins state contests

Food Science team advances to national

The East Central FFA competed in several Texas FFA Career Development Events in April, winning the Food Science event held at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. When the final calculations were complete, the team earned a trip to represent Texas at the National FFA Convention to be held the last week of October.

The team of Tommy Fletcher, Johnna Pieniazek, Chloe Villalpondo, and Randee Terrill placed first while competing against 15 other teams April 20 in Lubbock. All team members placed individually in the top 10. Tommy led his team with a second-high overall; Johnna, third; Chloe, fourth; and Randee, ninth-high overall. FFA advisor Ray Pieniazek coached the team, with assistance from Texas Tech University student teacher Andrea Nordman.

The Dairy Cattle Evaluation team of Kylie Patterson Alyssa Denson, Julie Kosub, and Hannah Plate placed sixth at the April 18 state contest held at Tarleton State University against 53 other teams. Kylie placed fourth- high individually. FFA advisor Danny Kempen coached this team.

The Entomology team of Todd Bettice, Danny Espinoza, Paige Plate, and Kearsten Pollok placed sixth against 48 other teams at the state contest held at Texas Tech University. Texas A&M University student teacher Amanda Cedillo trained this team, with assistance from FFA advisor Lorie Kempen.

East Central’s Ag Communications, Horse Evaluation, and Wool Judging teams also competed at Texas Tech.

The Ag Communications team of Ciarra Gawlik, Jordan Hevner, and Kelsey Mihalski placed 11th. Nordman trained this team with assistance from Pieniazek.

The Wool Judging team, coached by Danny Kempen, placed 21st with team members Kristen Ayala, Diamond Mouton-Bell, and Sean Mulhollen.

The Horse Evaluation team of Anissa Cervera, Brittany Coble, Morgan Harper, and Jessica Hawkins also competed at state, coached by Texas A&M University-Kingsville student teacher Sara Herring with assistance from Lorie Kempen.
