The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will work directly under the Border Prosecution Unit Initiative dedicated to Human Trafficking/Human Smuggling. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of fifteen (15) years prosecutorial experience and extensive felony trial experience. 1938-2013

Carlton E. Rice passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 24 days. He was born July 7, 1938, in Corbin, Ky., to Dean and Margaret Hensley Rice. He was a former resident of Kentucky and San Antonio, and a resident of Floresville for 21 years.

A 32nd Degree Mason, Lodge No. 515 & O.E.S. No. 271 AF&AM, Carlton was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Carlton is survived by his wife, Clara Moncayo Rice of Floresville; his children, Carla Rice of San Antonio and Cindy Jones and husband Rick of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Stephanie Springer and husband Nolan and James Jones and wife Amanda; his great-grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, and Aaron Jones; his stepbrother, Bill Dorsey; his cousin, David Broderick; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 6, at noon in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.

A funeral service was held Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the O.E.S. officiating.

Interment followed at 2:45 p.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with Masons and O.E.S. officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125.

Serving as pallbearers were Rick Jones, Nolan Springer, James Jones, Aaron Jones, Ken Ardoin, David Broderick, and Johnny Moncayo. Masons served as honorary pallbearers.
