Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1952-2013

Armando Ortiz Barrera, a lifelong resident of Floresville, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the age of 61 years and 2 days. He was born on June 2, 1952, in Floresville, Texas, to Antonio and Ninfa Ortiz Barrera.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Santiago Barrera, Ricardo Barrera, Vincente Barrera, Ruben Barrera, Rudy Barrera, Antonio Barrera, and Robert Barrera; and sisters Yolanda Barrera and Lucy Delgado.

Armando is survived by his companion, Diana Ramirez; children John Esquivel and wife Nicole, Jeremy Esquivel, and Joshua Esquivel, all of Floresville; sister Rosella Robles of Floresville; brother Dario Barrera of San Antonio; grandchildren Hailey Esquivel, John Esquivel, Nathan Esquivel, and Olivia Esquivel; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 7, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Ross Barrera, Leander Barrera, John Esquivel, Michael Barrera, Robert Ramirez, Jeremy Esquivel, Josh Esquivel, and Mark Barrera.
