The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office is seeking candidates for the position of an Administrative Assistant. Duties will include but not limited to: answering incoming calls and greeting visitors, prepare discovery for defense bar as required, providing administrative and clerical support to the ADAs and District Attorney, assist in general office work and perform related duties as follows: Operate a multi-line telephone switchboard, proficient use of software applications and computer equipment, scanning and compiling files for eDiscovery, filing and creating court files, generating reports as required. Applicants must have at least five (5) years of administrative assistant experience, strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) ability to multi-task, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 1937-2013

Pole Mendez, 75, died Friday, June 7, 2013, in his home in Smiley, Texas. He was born on Dec. 20, 1937, to Jose and Julia (Pacheco) Mendez.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pole is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita (Pena) Mendez; daughter Valerie Mendez-Herron and husband Chris Herron; three grandchildren, Dana Leal, Brooke Herron, and Kilee Herron; numerous godchildren; three brothers, Jessie Mendez, Angelo Mendez, and Jose Mendez; and a sister, Julia Mendez.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 10, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Smiley

Interment followed in the Burriola Cemetery near Smiley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
