Dogfighters cut plea deal
A trio of men who pled guilty to running a dogfighting operation northwest of Floresville all have struck deals to prevent them from going to jail, following their appearances June 3 in Wilson County District Court.
Alvin Earl Williams, 27, of Livingston, 33-year-old Roland Eric Contreras of San Antonio, and 68-year-old Eusebio Arguijo Martinez of Floresville each will receive probation. They also will be required to make restitution to Wilson County for expenses incurred related to upkeep and veterinary bills for four pit bull dogs removed Jan. 12 from a home on Martinez Lane. (See “Deputies bust dogfighters,” Jan. 16
“They also relinquished ownership of the animals, said Assistant District Attorney Audrey Louis of the 81st Judicial District. “We are hoping a pit bull rescue will take them, so they are not euthanized.”
In an unrelated case, Steven Edward Cole, 51, is due to return to court June 24. Cole -- who is charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant for his alleged role in the Jan. 15, 2011, incident outside his home north of Floresville -- recently underwent an insanity evaluation, which Louis said now is complete. Details of that evaluation could not be released.
