Graduation: Liesel Raabe is Floresville High School salutatorian
Liesel Raabe is the 18-year-old daughter of John and Tammy Raabe, and sister of Kelsey and Barrett Raabe. She is the granddaughter of Evelyn Raabe and the late Kenneth Raabe, and Freddy Janek and Elsie Walpole.
Liesel is the salutatorian of the Floresville High School graduating class of 2013. She will graduate with honors as a distinguished student receiving at least 27 hours of college credit. Throughout her high school career, Liesel has been very involved in her school, community, and church. As a student, she was awarded the PAP World Geography, PAP Geometry, PAP Algebra II, PAP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, Path to Success, and Accounting I Student of the Year awards. She was also named September student of the month, and has been a member of the “A” Honor Roll all four years of high school.
She is very active serving as the reporter/historian of the senior class, the president of the National Honor Society, the High Counsel Member for the FCA, and the treasurer for the Texas Association of Future Educators. Liesel was selected to be a member of the National Society of High School Scholars her sophomore year. She is involved in Link Crew, and she is the secretary of the Eagle Creek 4-H Club. Liesel has been on the varsity teams for cross country, basketball, for four years, and track three years. She was the captain of the varsity basketball team this past year. She has been awarded Academic All-District and All-State in each sport. She has been named to the TABC Academic All-State Team and the TGCA Academic Selection, as well as being named an All Tournament Player for the CCISD Basketball Tournament and 1st Team All-District.
Outside of school, Liesel is very involved in her church and participates as an extraordinary minister and lector. She is also the second vice president for the Junior Catholic Daughters Court No. 2496 and is very active in the ACTS organization for the parishes of St. Ann’s and St. Anthony’s.
When not busy with her academic and extracurricular activities, Liesel is volunteering in her community. Liesel has played on the Relentless Effort team, has been the team captain, and will be the coach this summer. She is also very active in her church where she is active with the Youth Group and has participated in numerous church activities and volunteer efforts. Liesel has assisted with VFW and Knights of Columbus chicken dinners. Liesel has volunteered ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. She has helped create St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving feast donation bags and has volunteered endless hours for charitable causes such as cancer benefits, Halloween Safety Education, Vacation Bible School, and many more honorable projects.
Liesel has received the following scholarships in reward for her hard work and determination: the Texas 4-H Opportunity scholarship, the All American Scholar Award, Texas A&M Opportunity Award, Texas A&M Community Connections Award, and Top 10 percent State Scholarship. Liesel has also received local scholarships from the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Floresville Fire Department, the FD Ladies Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce, the Wilson County Show Barn, Floresville Branch Catholic Life, Floresville Academic, Athletic Booster, 4-H Adult Boosters, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Three Oaks Extension Education Club, and the Wilson County Farm Bureau.
Upon graduation in June, Liesel plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station, where she will pursue interdisciplinary studies with plans to become a math teacher.
