South Central Texas Partners...Flash Flood Watch is in effect for western sections.

...HEADLINE... Heavy rains possible today and tonight across the western half of South Central Texas

...AREA OF CONCERN...Mainly west of a line from Fredericksburg down to Pearsall.

...IMPACTS...Heavy rain with flash flooding possible today and this evening. Rains of 2-4 inches possible with maybe even some spots reporting 6 inches. Those highest totals should be isolated.

...TIMING...Starting this morning and lasting through this evening.

...DISCUSSION...The pesky upper low pressure area over northern Mexico continues to spread deep Gulf moisture into the western half South Central Texas. With just a little daytime heating, this is erupting into showers and thunderstorms, most of which have very heavy downpours and rain rates of 2-4 inches per hour at times. The good thing is that the storms continue to move at a descent speed of 15 mph...so the real flooding concerns will set up when storms hit the same areas a few times in a row...we call this training when the storms move over the same areas. The western half of the area has been in a very bad drought as of late so the rain is desperately needed in most locations. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of the western counties. You can check our website for more details.

Just be on the lookout for flooded roads, low spots, low water crossings, arroyos, etc. This development of showers and storms will last all day with more activity moving up from the deep south part of Texas. Also be on the lookout for river and creek rises and report any flooding to the National Weather Service. Rain chances should diminish substantially on Saturday and Sunday but some lingering activity could persist. Today and later tonight should be the only Flood threat however. Stay safe...and stay off the roads if you can.

You can see the latest forecasts and watches/warnings/advisories by going to the Austin-San Antonio National Weather Service website at www.weather.gov/austin <http://www.weather.gov/austin>
