LVISD OKs new educators
LA VERNIA -- The La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) will add several new educator positions to assist with delivery of services to students. This was among several items addressed by the school board during its June 5 special meeting, according to Dr. Tom Harvey, the district superintendent, after the meeting.
New positions in the Special Education Department will help the district provide services to students, Harvey said. Also, because of growth in student populations, La Vernia ISD will add a dyslexia teacher, reading teacher, drama teacher, and part-time accompanist for the choir.
Board members also received a preliminary analysis of data regarding student achievement, presented by Dr. Diane Fisher, Dana Grubb, and Shannon Burns.
“As other data arrives, a more complete report including plans for improvement will be presented,” Harvey said.
District Director of Custodians Tommy Terry presented a comprehensive report to the board regarding the custodial department. He is reviewing processes to ensure the department remains fully staffed, Harvey said. At present, when someone resigns or leaves the custodial department, it can take several weeks to fill the position.
Also during the meeting, the board approved the establishment of two committees -- a curriculum committee and a finance committee. Dr. Cody Miller, school board president, will work to establish committee membership.
Also on the agenda was a Level III parent grievance, scheduled for an executive session.
