‘Bomb’ was baby monitor
FLORESVILLE -- Police here now say that the device found June 4 under a home on Fourth Street in Floresville was not part of a bomb hoax.
Lt. Chad Clark of the Floresville Police Department said June 17 that after interviewing the ex-husband of the woman who resided in the home, it has been concluded that the device actually was a baby monitor. Clark said there were five batteries, secured with electrical tape, stacked end-on-end. There also were wires on either side, allowing the batteries to provide power for the device.
During the interview, Clark said the man told police that he and a friend apparently left the baby monitor underneath the house in September when the two were performing electrical work. The two were using the monitor to communicate, and the suspect showed Clark a second baby monitor.
Clark said police would not pursue charges.
Police were called to the home after the woman noticed a crawl-space vent cover was missing on the home. She told police she was doing yard work nearby and noticed a blinking light.
Because of its appearance, police thought the device was a pipe bomb, prompting an evacuation of all homes located within 300 yards of the device. Members of the San Antonio Police Department’s bomb squad destroyed the device.
