GONZALES -- The board of directors of GVEC.net, a subsidiary of the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC), recently authorized staff to move forward with plans to bring Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Internet service to the La Vernia community. The engineering and design phases are complete and construction for the supporting infrastructure is under way. Fiber service will offer local residents and businesses the highest speeds available in the industry by fall 2013.

GVEC.net plans to implement its Fiber to the Home services in multiple phases within the community.According to Darren Schauer, GVEC general manager and CEO, the decision to offer FTTH is centered on meeting the needs of the community.

“The La Vernia area is growing, well suited for this type of service, and residents have told us exactly what they need and want from their high speed Internet service. It is our hope the community will trust GVEC.net to deliver this new technology to their homes and businesses backed by 75 years of proven reliability and true commitment to local service,” said Schauer.

Fiber to the Home technology is simple and easy to understand. Fiber optic cables have the necessary bandwidth to deliver large amounts of data at one time to multiple devices from the Internet. For the business professional, Fiber heightens productivity for networking, presentations, and electronic correspondence. Service is dedicated, meaning it is always on and available when needed with little to no waiting or buffering time.
