FLORESVILLE -- Dustin Wright rode away with an Xtra-fancy Gator seat saddle as the high-point roper of the fourth annual Floresville FFA Team Roping event held May 18 in the Floresville River Park arena.

According to organizers, 432 ropers gave it their all to earn belt buckles and prize money during the all-day event. All proceeds are used for scholarships and assist with travel expenses for FFA members attending conventions and competing at area and state events.

Wright placed third in the No. 10 roping against 139 other ropers, and second in the No 12 roping, in a field of 48, to take top honors.

But Wright was not the only roper with two wins during the event.

Clint Tieken won first in the No. 8 roping while paired with Carlos Pena. In the No. 10, Tieken again lassoed a first-place finish while paired with Scott Baker.

A second Tieken placed first and second in the No. 12 round. David Tieken, paired with Kenneth Heritage, placed first. He returned to the winners’ circle with Wright for a second-place finish.

Norman Hernandez won third place in the No. 7 event while teamed with Jonathan Talamantez. He placed a second time in the No. 8 roping, placing fourth while teamed with Lloyd Hernandez.

Cody Pierdolla placed third in the No. 8 round, paired with Alex Ybarra. A total of 152 ropers competed in that round. Pierdolla and Steve Hausman earned a second-place finish in the No. 10 round.

In the No. 7 round, 92 ropers competed, with Jamie Shelton and Roy Thayer earning the top spot.
