KIRBY -- Police here have arrested 35-year-old Levi Antonio Bonds, charging him with capital murder in the death of his 67-year-old roommate, Stephen Knutson. Officers, assisted by the Texas Rangers, took Bonds into custody June 18, said Sgt. Michael Alonzo of the Kirby Police Department.

Police found Knutson's body inside his home in a mobile-home park on F.M. 78, after friends reported that they had not seen him and that his car was missing. When officers responded, they detected a foul odor coming from the trailer, which prompted them to enter the home. There, they discovered that Knutson had been stabbed to death and that some items had been stolen.

Kirby -- a suburb of San Antonio that is located northeast of that city -- seldom experiences a homicide investigation. Alonzo said prior to this year, the last incident was in 2010, preceded by one in 2003. Knutson's death marks the third capital murder this year. Suspects in an April stabbing death and a March poisoning death have been arrested.
