1923-2013

Alfred L. Cadena Sr., 89, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, in Seguin, Texas. Alfred was born to Henry F. and Helen J. (Lyro) Cadena on Aug. 7, 1923, in San Antonio.

Alfred was a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) and the American Legion, Post 1539.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law David Lesczynski.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Pauline “Polly” A. Cadena of St. Hedwig; son Alfred L. Cadena Jr. and wife Florence of Santa Maria, Calif.; daughters Bettie Kay Lesczynski of San Antonio and Nancy Ann Cielencki and husband Gregory of La Vernia; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister Ernestine Cade of Schertz; brother Jake Chain of Pasadena; five nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 23, at 6 p.m. with a rosary vigil at 7 p.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig.

A funeral Mass was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Ricardo Hernandez officiating.

Interment followed in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.

Memorial contributions may be made in Alfred’s name to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Kitchen Fund, P.O. Box 100, St. Hedwig, TX 78152, or to the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, 1215 E. Court St., Seguin, TX 78155.
