WCAD ponders office needs, future
FLORESVILLE --The Wilson County Appraisal District board of directors is weighing all options when it comes to office space. This was the topic of a June 17 special meeting, much of which was spent in closed session.
Following the meeting, Chief Appraiser Brian Stahl said the board -- when it reconvened in open session -- voted to direct him to proceed as discussed during closed session. While Stahl could not comment on exactly what the discussion entailed, he said it related to how the appraisal district could best spend its building fund.
In September 2008, the board began considering the district’s need to either relocate or expand its current office building on Railroad Street. At that time, the board voted to hold back $120,837 in surplus funds that went unused in fiscal year 2007, which was used to start the building fund.
Then in 2010, the board received renovation quotes from two architects, which ranged from $192,000 to $240,000. The proposals called for the addition of 2,400 square feet to the current office building’s west side. No action was taken.
Stahl said following the June 17 meeting, all options -- constructing a new facility, renovating the existing facility, or relocation -- currently are under consideration.
