TEA announces changes to end-of-course exams

AUSTIN -- Under House Bill (HB 5) passed by the 83rd Texas Legislature and signed by the governor, high school students are now required to pass five State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) end-of-course exams to meet the new graduation requirements, according to information provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Students who are required to take end-of-course (EOC) exams in order to graduate originally had to pass 12-15 exams.

The exams required will be:

•Algebra I

•English I (currently two Reading/Writing tests)

•Biology

•English II (currently two Reading/Writing tests)

•U.S. History.
