1949-2013

James “Jim” Lee Mutz Sr., a resident of the Sunnyside community in Wilson County, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the age of 64 years, 4 months, and 23 days. Jim was born Feb. 6, 1949, the son of Philip T. and Elizabeth Moy Mutz.

After graduating from Floresville High School, Jim received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, before earning his master’s degree from Texas A&M University in College Station in ranch management. Jim was a biologist and research scientist in ranch management in Alice and Laredo for many years. In Laredo, Jim worked with H.B. Zachry’s Rancho Blanco, before returning home to Floresville to retire. Jim loved the land and spent each morning feeding his catfish. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved spending time with his sons and grandsons.

Jim was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Kosciusko, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Society for Ranch Management. He served as Scoutmaster for several years and wrote numerous articles on ranch management.

He was preceded in death by his father, Philip T. Mutz; his brother, Billy Wayne Mutz; and his nephew, U.S. Army Sgt. Mitchel Thomas Mutz.

Jim is survived by his beautiful sons, James Lee Mutz Jr. of Bryan and Michael Philip Mutz of Laredo; his loving mother, Elizabeth Moy Mutz of Wilson County; his precious grandchildren, William James Mutz and Tyler Jacob Mutz, both of Laredo; his wonderful siblings, Bobby R. Mutz and wife Dixie of Falls City and Jeanette “Jan” Jendrzey and husband Lambert of Panna Maria; James Jr. and Michael’s mother, Beth of Kingsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was held Wednesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. in the St. Ann Catholic Church in Kosciusko.

The recitation of a rosary and the celebration of a funeral Mass were held at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Stan Oleksy officiating.

Interment followed in the St. Ann Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Serving as pallbearers were Rudy Ramirez, John Prukop, Lambert Jendrzey, Andrew Jendrzey, Nathan Mutz, Isidore Moy, Alvin Gorzell, and Kenneth Moy.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jim’s wonderful friend, Tommy Stadler; and his friends and co-workers at H.B. Zachry’s Rancho Blanco in Laredo.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8610 N. New Braunfels, Suite No. 400, San Antonio, TX 78217.
