La Vernia Connections: Summertime activities in La Vernia
Hello, La Vernia Citizens,
It’s officially “summertime,” and while we have been lucky to receive the rains recently, I just wanted to remind everyone to please try to water in the evening and early in the morning when the evaporation rate is at its lowest.
We have some interesting things taking place this weekend starting with Friday Night in the Park with San Antonio River Authority’s showing of “The Story of the San Antonio River.” For more information, see below. The San Antonio River Authority will be providing “movie refreshments.” So take your lawn chairs and enjoy the evening with us!
The La Vernia Little League will be hosting the 2013 Southwest Region “Big League” Baseball Tournament Friday through Monday, July 12-15, at the high school baseball field.
Speaking of baseball, Saturday, July 13, will be “La Vernia Night with the Missions” at Wolff Stadium, and free vouchers for the game are available at La Vernia City Hall while they last! This is a fantastic opportunity to see some great Little League and professional baseball action this weekend!
You may have seen the repaving taking place on some of the streets around town, and we expect this work to be completed by next week.
Don’t forget that if you’re going out of town on vacation this summer, contact the La Vernia Police Department about complimentary “Vacation Checks” on your home.
Coming in August is the La Vernia Parks Foundation’s annual BBQ Cookoff which always features good food, music, and is always a lot of fun for kids and adults. Because of the efforts of the Parks Foundation, we have the fantastic playground equipment, walking track, and exercise equipment to utilize. And if you go by the park, you will see the new entrance and gate so now two cars can actually enter and exit at the same time!
So enjoy your summer and we hope to see you at one of the many upcoming events!
Till next month.
Robert Gregory is the mayor of La Vernia.
