FEDC selects contractor for new ‘Grande’ driveway

FLORESVILLE -- In their regular monthly meeting July 1, members of the Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) unanimously agreed to hire Pronto Sandblasting and Coating to construct a concrete driveway at El Rancho Grande Industrial Park at a cost of $74,950.
The board had various options, including a choice between concrete and asphalt, and selected from among several different bids. In the end, Pronto was chosen based on price and reputation. Jason Talley expressed how pleased he was to hear that the low bidder was thoroughly checked out, and that the company comes “highly recommended.” He pointed out that in the past, the city has suffered by simply hiring the contractor with the lowest bid.
The board also discussed mowing, shredding, and trimming services for the FEDC-owned properties. Because all felt something needed to be done soon, the board authorized interim Executive Director Raymond “Ram” Ramirez and board President Andy Eubanks to award a contract at their discretion, once all bids have been received. The cost of these services is not subject to the bid process.
In other business, the board:
•Approved the plan and spec sheet for construction of the Whitmire Office Building at the Veterans Park.
•Approved a $3,400 contract with Bury+Partners Professional Services to complete the plans for a wastewater extension at the Veterans Park.
•Declined extensions on contracts with Hammer Exploration LLC, Hammer Isolation LLC, and Laredo Hydro-Tec LP. It was agreed that any earnest money would be returned if the businesses chose not to close on property at El Rancho Grande Industrial Park.
In attendance: Board members Andy Eubanks, David Strozier, Jason Talley, and Mike Herry; Interim Executive Director Raymond “Ram” Ramirez; and attorney Howard Berger.
