In June of 1957, Bennie Roemer was called to serve in the U.S. Army. A year later, on June 28, 1958, he came home on leave and married his sweetheart, Arleen Thoms.

They bought a secondhand ’55 Ford, packed their belongings, and drove to Denver, Colo., where Bennie was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. They eventually returned home and settled on a part of the original Roemer homestead in the Labatt community, north of Floresville.

They are thankful to be blessed with their family: Cindy, Michael, Aaron, and Levi Miller; Cheryl, John, and Natalie Adams; and David, Cheryl, and Robert Roemer; as well as many friends in their church and community.
