FLORESVILLE -- A multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 181 and C.R. 130 near the Walmart Supercenter here has sent two via ambulance to the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville.

According to Patrolman James “Billy” Mitchell of the Floresville Police Department, just after 1 p.m., Joel Tolle, 45, of Floresville was traveling southbound on U.S. 181 in a tractor-trailer owned by R Construction Oilfield Services, when he came upon traffic stopped in the intersection. Mitchell said the tractor-trailer struck the rear of a Ford F-250 pickup truck being driven by 71-year-old Wilburn Eddie Eckhardt of Fredericksburg, which spun through the intersection and into the grass median.

The careening F-250 struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck being driven by 71-year-old Donald Deaton of Floresville. A Ford Mustang -- driven by 38-year-old Miguel Salazar of San Antonio -- suffered front-end damage, which Mitchell said likely was from striking debris from the other vehicles.

The Wilson County Emergency Medical Services transported Eckhardt to Connally, along with Deaton’s 68-year-old wife, Holly.

Tolle was charged with failure to stop, Mitchell said.
