Editor:

When other small towns enjoy lively parades, carnivals, and fireworks on the 4th of July, Floresville has to cancel our fireworks display due to a budget constraint.

I personally think that this is despicable and disrespectful to all of us veterans who have put our lives on the line to defend the right to do such things as this. If the city council can’t manage a budget with enough money to fund a fireworks show for its citizens, maybe it’s time to get a new city council.

The council (past and present) are the ones responsible for obtaining and spending the city’s finances and, if they can’t manage what they are elected to do, it’s time to clean house. Sorry, but that’s my opinion. Maybe if we get some new leadership in there, things will pick up, and Floresville can get its bond rating raised back to where it was.

JAMES W. CHATHAM

The cause doesn't change the result. The team can not accept any blame....blame it on the coach or the officials.

You know in some ways every holiday does belong to our military. What if they had failed?

4th of July has nothing to do with veterans. It's Independence Day!!! There are plenty of other holidays to honor our veterans. And yes, we have veterans in our family.

Dumb. Everything about your letter is dumb. I'd like nothing better to have some seaman shine your brass works with a dose of common sense. No one in this country is entitled to anything except those freedoms explicitly written ... More ›

Mr. Chatham, first of all, may I thank you from the bottom of my heart for serving this country of ours. My Daddy was a naval officer and my husband served in the Air Force, so I think that pride goes a long way into our hearts. ... More ›
