1940-2013

Richard William Ruffcorn passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minn., to William and Evelyn Ruffcorn.

He attended Minnehaha Academy and worked as an apprentice printer in his youth. Richard earned his bachelor’s degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force -- eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant upon his honorable discharge. Richard practiced as a certified public accountant and controller for a number of years. A lifelong learner, he later obtained master’s degrees in business administration, education, and accounting. In subsequent years, a deep interest in all aspects of medicine drove Richard to become involved in nursing home administration, emergency medical services, and nursing. Richard enjoyed both Scouting and youth sports, and was extremely active in the coaching of his sons’ baseball and basketball leagues, as well as leading their Scout troop. A paramedic, he also volunteered with the Stockdale EMS. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denhawken.

Richard is survived by his wife, L. Carlene Ruffcorn; his sister, Marianne Ruffcorn; his brother, Kevin Ruffcorn; sons Derek Ruffcorn and wife Michelle and Scott Ruffcorn and wife Violet Yuen; granddaughters Stephanie Bruce, Ashley Ruffcorn, Amber Bruce, and McKenna Ruffcorn; and grandson Liam Ruffcorn.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denhawken, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the church officiated by Pastor Norman Beck.

Interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later time in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Fort Snelling, Minn.
