Mary Viola Riley Reinecker
Mary Viola Riley Reinecker, 94, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013. She was born on Sept. 22, 1918, to Julius Houston and Annie Ellen Oliver Riley in Floresville, Texas, the third of seven children.
Mary grew up in the Floresville area. She graduated from Floresville High School as the valedictorian of her class. She attended Texas State Teacher’s College in San Marcos. As World War II was raging, Mary was called to teach in the Floresville School District in a one-room schoolhouse. On a trip to visit her college roommate, Mary secured a job teaching in Orchard, Texas. She married Lester Floyd Reinecker on June 6, 1945, in the family quarters of the Austin County jailhouse in Bellville. They made their home on the banks of the Brazos River near Orchard. Mary was an active member of the Orchard United Methodist Church, a talented seamstress, an accomplished gardener, and was the local secretary for Germania Insurance. Always present was her love of teaching children. She worked hard to instill an appreciation of the importance of education in her children and grandchildren. Rarely was there a game, awards assembly, or school project in which “Granny” was not involved.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Floyd Reinecker; son Lester Floyd Reinecker II; her parents; five brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Wegenhoft and husband Travis; daughter‑in‑law Bobbie Reinecker; grandchildren Dana Henry and husband Joel, Jonathan Guthman and wife Jennifer, Leslie Reinecker, and Jessica Ulassin and husband Kyle; great-grandchildren Courtney Danae Clipson, Jacob Cole Guthman, Joshua Blake Guthman, and Wyatt Tucker Ulassin; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends; and her devoted and loving caregivers, Brenda Boehm, Melda Coleman, Courtney Washington, and Francis Buentello.
Serving as pallbearers were Jon Guthman, Joel Henry, Kenneth Vacek, Dan Riley, Jim Riley, and Travis Wegenhoft.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Orchard United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 322 N. Missouri, Wallis, TX 77485; or to the Orchard Volunteer Fire Department, 9821 Galveston, Orchard, TX 77464.
