Poth P&Z talks child-care center
Ashley Boenker addresses the Poth Planning and Zoning Commission July 9, during a public hearing that began outside Poth City Hall.
POTH -- A new after-school child-care center could be coming to the area, following a public hearing and subsequent discussion during the July 9 meeting of the Poth Planning and Zoning Commission.
Ashley and Justin Boenker -- who recently purchased a house at the corner of Titcomb and Brinkoeter streets across from the Poth Independent School District’s tennis courts -- have applied for a specific-use permit that would allow them to renovate the home’s detached garage. It approved, the building would be converted into a center where children up to age 12 can wait after school until their parents finish work.
No other citizens were present for the public hearing, which started outside Poth City Hall until Sgt. Jonathan Kurtz of the Poth Police Department arrived to unlock the building. The couple will have to return for a second public hearing during the commission’s Aug. 13 meeting. From there, pending a satisfactory recommendation, the city council will vote on the proposal Aug. 21.
In attendance: Commission members Jake Powell, Scott Lyssy, and Adan Montez; and Poth City Engineer Dean Bayer.
