Jury selection set for murder trial
Jury selection ahead of the trial of 19-year-old Kyle McKay of San Antonio is set for Aug. 12, according to Wilson County District Court records. This was after his case was reset during a July 9 appearance before 81st Judicial District Court Judge Donna Rayes.
McKay is charged with the shooting death of 23-year-old Dakotah Reynolds of San Antonio, whose body was found by hunters Nov. 13, 2012, in a remote area of the Quail Run Golf Club north of Stockdale. He also is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, after a witness reported seeing McKay driving the victim’s 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier in the moments following Reynolds’ death.
McKay is set to return to court for a docket call July 31 prior to jury selection. If convicted of murder, McKay faces up to life in prison.
Also scheduled for jury selection Aug. 12 is the case of Benjie Burke III, 34, of Gilmer. He is charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the Jan. 21, 2012, death of his passenger, 30-year-old Justin Gregory Jones of Edmond, Okla. Burke was set to return to court July 16 for a pretrial hearing, followed by a July 31 docket call.
Among the other defendants appearing in court July 9 were:
•Jordan Lewis, 30, of San Antonio, charged with aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated kidnapping, escape, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle following a March 3, 2012, escape from the Wilson County Jail. He also will stand trial for his alleged role in a Nov. 7, 2011, burglary. Jury selection ahead of this trial is set for Sept. 9, with Lewis’ next scheduled court appearance being a pretrial hearing set for Aug. 6, followed by an Aug. 21 docket call.
•Maria Elena Wilden-stein, 48. The former La Vernia Junior High School principal is charged with misapplication by a fiduciary in connection with her alleged misapplication of 23 checks written from the school’s junior high activity fund. She is set to return to court Aug. 6 for a pretrial hearing, followed by an Aug. 29 docket call. Jury selection ahead of her trial is set for Sept. 9.
•Dallas Warren Crisp, 30, of Pleasanton, charged with one count each of burglary of a habitation and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle. The charges stem from a Jan. 15 burglary and subsequent police pursuit in Floresville. Crisp waived his right to a trial by jury and is set to return to court Aug. 19 to enter a plea.
•Roxie Jean Talarico, 19, of Pleasanton -- Crisp’s alleged accomplice -- is charged with burglary of a habitation. She is set to return to court Aug. 19 for a pretrial hearing, followed by a docket call Aug. 21. Jury selection ahead of Talarico’s trial is set for Sept. 9.
