Raymond R. Oates, 80, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, in Floresville, Texas. He was born in Baltimore, Md., July 22, 1932, to James Arthur Oates and Ida Olivia Harn.

He was a resident of Floresville for a number of years. He was a member of Oak Hills Community Church. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 38 in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth; and two brothers, Donald and Carlise Oates.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Victoria Oates of Floresville; his five daughters, Donna Silvers, Cathy Moorehead, and Sherrie Oates, all of California, Ana Donoski of Missouri, and Mandy Favors of Puerto Rico; his sister, Margaret Schmidt of Maryland; and his brothers, James Oates of Missouri and Lou Oates of North Carolina.

Visitation was held Monday, July 22, from 6-9 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel of Floresville.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 23, at noon in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joel Odem officiating.

Interment followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors.
