The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will work directly under the Border Prosecution Unit Initiative dedicated to Human Trafficking/Human Smuggling. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of fifteen (15) years prosecutorial experience and extensive felony trial experience. 1932-2013

Raymond R. Oates, 80, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, in Floresville, Texas. He was born in Baltimore, Md., July 22, 1932, to James Arthur Oates and Ida Olivia Harn.

He was a resident of Floresville for a number of years. He was a member of Oak Hills Community Church. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 38 in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth; and two brothers, Donald and Carlise Oates.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Victoria Oates of Floresville; his five daughters, Donna Silvers, Cathy Moorehead, and Sherrie Oates, all of California, Ana Donoski of Missouri, and Mandy Favors of Puerto Rico; his sister, Margaret Schmidt of Maryland; and his brothers, James Oates of Missouri and Lou Oates of North Carolina.

Visitation was held Monday, July 22, from 6-9 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel of Floresville.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 23, at noon in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joel Odem officiating.

Interment followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors.
